The 2001 edition is centered in the town of Sibu, the Gateway to the mighty Rajang Valley and its hinterland, where adventure awaits the free-spirited. Its strategic location in Central Sarawak makes it an ideal meeting place for the mountain bike enthusiasts to trade trail stories and bike yarn. Junaco Park, surrounded by gentle and open rolling hills, will be the racing venue. With names like The Tower Climb, the 120-steps descent, the Durian switchback descent and climb and Urban Assault, the specially- laid cross-country route will challenge the seasoned riders and weekend warriors alike. A total purse of RM3,000 will up for grabs. Being a Sarawak Cycling Association sanctioned race, points earned can be added to the State riders tally. Being a festival, it also caters to non-racers, mountain bikers or otherwise. For mountain bikers, they can join the Foochow Heartland tour or take advantage of the cycling trails in and around Junaco Park. Children can get up close to some of Sarawak's wildlife or pedal merrily away in the paddle boats for hire at the park. The Borneo Mountain Bike Festival 2001 is brought to you by the Ministry of Tourism, Junaco Park and mtbAsia. Race management is by the Sarawak Cycling Association. Other highlights

ride round the town of Sibu will add colour (from your jersey lest
you wonder) to the occasion and at the same time giving you the
opportunity to show off the shiny spokes you worked on diligently
the night before. The Minister for Tourism together with local dignitaries
are scheduled to lead the ride. |

The
Borneo Mountain Bike Festival is a unique event in Sarawak's mountain
biking scene. This festival is a weekend of touring, racing and
good old networking among mountain biking enthusiasts in the state
and beyond.
If
you happen to arrive early, (which we hope), a complimentary tour
of the Foochow heartland to get the cobwebs off your legs . The
one and the half hour leisurely ride will take you through the earliest
Foochow settlement in Sibu where a network of cement paths and single
tracks awaits you.
